Kashmiri students protest at AMU against alleged thrashing of Phd schola

 

Srinagar, Dec 25 (KNO): Scores of Kashmiri students Sunday protested at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) against the alleged thrashing of a Kashmiri scholar their

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), one of the protesting students said some students of the university were playing badminton at 1 am and a Phd scholar from Kashmir asked them not to disturb the students.

“The students who were playing badminton in anger started thrashing him. The matter didn’t end here, some more non-local students came in a group on the very next day and thrashed the Kashmiri students,” he alleged.

He said when they tried to contact the university authorities they did not respond and compelled them to protest against the administration.

“We want the administration to take immediate strict action against all those persons who are making mockery of the university,” the protesting students said.

Meanwhile, the top officials of AMU told KNO the issue started when a Kashmiri scholar perusing Phd in English stopped some students from playing badminton.

“At around 11:30-12 am, some students were playing badminton and the Kashmiri scholar had asked them to stop but they refused following which he broke the tube light of the badminton court and he was beaten,” the official said.

Meanwhile, J&K Students Association National Convenor Nasir Khuehami told KNO that,
situation inside Aligarh Muslim University with Kashmiri students is grim.

“In a month, at least 3 kashmiri students were beaten. AMU authorities must ensure safety to each and every student and should restore academic culture back to it’s fine stage.”

He claimed he was told the administration had solved the matter but they Kashmiri students are protesting because they alleged that the administration is not concerned about them.

He added in this regard the student union has also sent a communication to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s office for his personal intervention—(KNO)
