Three days and counting; two bodies in Handwara mortuary awaiting shifting to Karnah
Srinagar, Feb 02, KDC: Bodies of two persons, from Karnah and Tangdhar, are lying in mortuary at District Hospital Handwara in northern Kashmir amid continuous blockade of roads in the aftermath of recently heavy snowfall.
Reports reaching Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com said the two bodies of elderly persons identified as Haji Qalandar Mir (65), resident of Dildar Karnah and Alamdin Khattana (60), resident of Dragad Tangdhar are at the mortuary of Handwara hospital. Qalandar, who died at Hamdania Colony, Bemina Srinagar, reached the hospital on January 30, 2023, while the body of Khattana reached on February 1, 2023.
Ayaz Ahmad, nephew of one of the bereaved, has sought the assistance of Lt Governor Administration to ferry back the bodies to respective native places as soon as possible. “We urge the Lt Governor administration to lend us chopper services’ so that we are able to take the bodies from hospital”, he urged.
Family of another deceased man said that these bodies have been in the mortuary for many days now and it is a ‘shame’ on district administration. “We are running from pillar to post but no officer from the administration is bothered to listen to us,” they alleged.
The aggrieved families have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor led administration to help for ferrying the bodies to their respective places so that last rights could be performed at the earliest.
